Taper Mode

I am officially tapering for the 100 mile run. I am both nervous and excited, but mostly excited to celebrate life and to recognize Malia's battle with cancer. Please email me at amytriano12@gmail.com if you would like my cell phone number. I will have my phone with me while I am running so if you want to meet me at some point I can give you a location update. Or if you just want to give me a hard time, I would welcome that distraction.

Happy New Year to everyone! Keep Malia and other cancer fighters in your thoughts, and if you have some extra change don't hestitate to toss it their way!

Less Than a Month

Less than a month to go and only a week before I begin to taper. Time flies when you're running slow!

Happy Holidays

I recently received the holiday card from Malia and her family. It held excellent news, reiterating that Malia is in remission and is currently 6 months into a clinical trial run by Dr.Scholler that uses DFMO. DFMO's intended use was for treatment of excessive hair growth and African Sleeping Sickness, but is believed to help prevent relapse in neuroblastoma.

Malia and her family have set a goal to raise $10,000 for this research trial which has the potential to save the lives of many children with cancer. Below please find the information on how to donate to this specific goal. Thank you for all of the continued support.

I found a great blog which has a post written about Malia and her story. If you have a minute you can check it out here: http://joeandruzzifoundation.blogspot.com/2012/07/a-brave-little-girl-hopes-for-remission.html#!/2012/07/a-brave-little-girl-hopes-for-remission.html .

If you are interested in donating you can mail a check made out to For Kids Sake to the address below or go to mailiacrushescancer.com for more info.

Las Vegas Rock N' Roll Marathon

I spent my Sunday night running with 40,000 of my closest running compadres. I was reminded once again of how commercialized marathon running has become. But all in all I had an unforgetable evening and was even able to beat my best marathon time by 8 minutes. Though after I finished I my first thought  was " Wow I would have to run that about three more times to reach 100 miles. "

This was my last registered race before the 100 mile run. I had never seen Vegas before, well now I have, no need to go back. This weekend I am going to try for a 20 miler Saturday and a 20 miler Sunday am and 9 miles Sunday pm. Next weekens I will add another 9 miler Saturday afternoon. Then I will have one more true long run weekend before I start to taper for the run.

I have been thinking about what I should have around in terms of fluids and food while I am running. I have been using what little running experience I have to compose a detailed list of possibilities. In the coming weeks I will begin to get everything together. In January, it will have been two years since I ran my first marathon and about two and a half years since I started running. I am excited to continue pushing my limits (luck?) with the 100 miler.

Please donate to Malia and continue to support pediatric cancer and the true heroes who fight the good fight everyday. Malia surely continues to live every moment to the fullest, follow her story on facebook, twitter, and her website www.maliacrushesancer.com !
